The local gunshop has an old 12 ga barrel from a single shot gun. I have no idea what gun it belongs on but was thinking it could be fun to make a cheap black powder shotgun.

How long does the breech plug need to be in order to allow the threads to offer sufficient holding power?

Are coarse or fine threads better?

I think that I should probably cut the chamber off so that the inside of the barrel will be uniform. I will probably leave enough of the chamber to place the breech plug there.

I haven't made up my mind yet on what type of lock I will use. I have always thought a matchlock would be fun. Have any of you ever made a matchlock?
