Ruger Mk II Complete Disassembly
Can anybody direct me to a web site or book or something that gives the details on complete disassembly/reassembly of the Ruger Mk II pistol (trigger, hammer, sear, etc.)? Been to the Ruger site and the Ruger forum but no joy there.

You could call up Ruger and get a user manual from them. In it, is an exploded drawing of the Mark II. You can figure things out from there.

I already have the manual - the exploded view is really small (at least to my old eyes). I can detail strip a 1911 with my eyes closed but am a bit apprehensive about trying a Mk II without a little more guidance than an exploded view.

Do a search on this subject. Seems to me years ago, I found a link to a site that had complete illustrated instructions on the take down of the Mark II step by step including the problematic reassembly.

The Ruger is not hard to completely disassemble, though I don't recommend it unless a part needs to be replaced. Otherwise, best to flush the crud out with a good spray penetrant or dunk it in a sonic tank, and otherwise leave it alone.
If you feel you absolutely must take it all apart, don't start by driving out pins, because some of them don't drive out. For example, the trigger pin is held in by either an E ring (old model) or the bolt stop spring (new model). Trying to drive it out will bend the frame. Also, don't mess with permanent assemblies, like the recoil spring guide and the mainspring housing. Jim |

The Gun Digest Firearms Assembly/Disassembly series has an excellent treatment of the Ruger 22 semi-auto in the pistols book. It's a must have if you have a bunch of different guns that you'll one day want to detail strip.

I've got a Mark II with a bull bbl. Once field stripped, I completely deutsch (it's OK I'm German) the receiver/frame with WD-40 (I know, I know) and completely scrub it with an old tooth brush and then completely dry it with compressed air prior to a new layer of lube (NOT WD-40).

Try this link:
http://www.ontargetguns.com/rtips.html Field stripping instructions, with photos. Not a detail strip, but most of the stuff that confuses people. (There may be instructions for MORE at this site, as well.) |
