Sounds of powder??

While doing some shooting this weekend, I noticed a difference in the tone of different types of powder. My handloads, mostly of 231 & clays, some tightgroup, and a few h110 & 2400 in .357mag and 45colt. A friend of mine came over and just happened to have his .41mag blackhawk with him. He was shooting factory winchester ammo. I noticed a difference in the tone of report between mine and his. Mine sounds like pow & boooom where his sounds more like ka-pow w/a crack added in. What type of powder does winchester use? I thought it was 296. Is this just specific to the .41mag.? How can I get that sound? Oh, I know, buy a .41 mag.........

.30 carbine in handgun is a good cracker.
As 125 gr at around 1,800 fps in .357 mag.

Nature of the sound is more a function of load intensity, projectile velocity, bore size etc than breed of powder.

Of course, some powders can safely be loaded hotter than others.

Oodles of variables. Helps make shootin fun.
