Forum hearsay on Glock Talk says that at least 17s and maybe other models are being made in Smyrna, GA but not for sale in the U.S., and are intended for foreign markets that don't have trade agreements with Austria or whatever.

Glocks for sale in the U.S. are made in Austria and assembled in Smyrna, but a couple of years ago I did see G17s for sale with made-in-the-U.S. frames. Haven't seen any in awhile however.

Apparently forum hearsay on GT also says Glock has dropped the tenifer treatment in favor of some other metal treatment.

Take most of this with a grain of salt for what its worth.

glocks are made in austria .. glocks manufactured and assembled in austria for US importation have US after the serial number. glocks manufactured in austria but assembled in the US in smyrna georgia do not have the US after the serial number and are slated for US and international sales. Glock did not get away from using the "tenifer" process but did change the formula. the old formula used a salt bath that used cyanide, the new formula does not.. resulting in that dull gray vs the old shiny black.

Not exactly, there are U.S. made Glocks intended for foreign sales made in the U.S:

Correct. There were quite a few US made Glocks sold in the US during the Nov07-Jan08 time period (right after the election) to fill the giant spike in demand. These guns are kind of collectors items these days and sell for a premium on the used gun market over Austrian made Glocks.

The armorors course instructors said that in the next couple years, US made Glocks will be commonly sold in the US but they basically will need to change their logistics system around to do so and as long as their production is running far behind demand they'll probably continue exporting US made Glocks and importing Austrain made Glocks---yes, I realize this is illogical but it's the way it is...

Here's a US made G17:

All of them we buy are made in Austria but US guns have Smyrna, GA stamped on them due to some goooofy ATF crap, (Importer). Glock gets kicked a lot by the ATF, that plastic gun that you can sneek though a metal detector you know. They are in some sort of tift right now.

Glock is not the only manufacturer required to put the importer stamp on guns brought into the US...

You are correct. All importers have to do that. This is why some people think those are US made. Did not mean for it to sound like they were the only ones.

Exact reason people think Walther is owned by S&W-it is not. S&W is only the importer (or was) so a Walther would have S&W stamped on it.

The ability to produce guns here makes me wonder why Glock hasnt come out with a small single stack 9mm that otherwise could not be imported due to that point-based 1968 GCA system.

Seems they'd sell like crazy, but maybe that slice of the pie is tiny compared to their world-wide sales and not worth messing with...?

Me thinks the paranoia is showing through.

No they are not picking on you. It actually goes back a long way (1968).

Prior to that no importer marks required.

It applies to rifles AND pistols.

You might try selling a gun in Austria and see what kind of &*^% the ATF (Austrian Tobacco and Firearm) hoops you have to jump through!

Read the book on Glock, weird family operation. Gasp, the next thing you know they would make a hammer fired.

Kind of like Harley making a good handling sport bike, just won't happen (Buel aside which they bought and then killed)

This is not correct. US made Glocks are sold in the US. Most are still Austrian made but many are US made. See pics of my USA made Gen4 G27 below:
