Ammo segergation, 2 3/4" and 3"
I have 12 ga. shotguns with both 2 3/4" and 3" chambers. Most of my ammo is 2 3/4" but I do have a little bit of 3" also. The 3" stuff is all in 5 round boxes: one box of #4 buck, two boxes of 1 oz. slugs, and three boxes of 00 buck.
I know enough to be certain that I only use the 3" loads in the properly chambered shotguns. My concern is that not everyone else is aware of the difference and I don't want any accidental use of the 3" stuff in a 2 3/4" gun. How do you segregate your ammo to eliminate any chance of this happening? I am thinking that I should just shoot up the 3" ammo and only have 2 3/4" loads. That would be the surest way of eliminating the issue, but I'd like to hear what anyone else does. |

I have about 20 boxes(25 shells) of assorted 12 ga. 2 3/4" in pheasant, game, target, steel, and 00 buck and 30 boxes(5 shells) of slugs. I have one box of .410 in 3", the rest is 2 1/2" and a couple boxes each of 28 and 20 ga. 2 3/4" for "working the kids up the ladder" of shotguns. Not a whole lot by most reconing, so shooting up the 3" stuff seems like a reasonable option, not to mention an excuse for a range trip...

Shoot the 3" it or lock it in an ammo box.
