44 mag & Unique powder

Looking for some advice using Unique powder and 44 mag. shooting SRH 7.5 in bbl. I have 255 gr. WFL PB and 300 gr. WFN GC. both from Cast Performance. Looking for 1150 - 1250 FPS for both. How does 9 grain of Unique sound??? Not real easy finding data for these. Thanks for the help.

Near the bottom there are some cast lead loads--not quite the same bullet weight. You might be able to figure it out.

Shot 10 of thousands of cast 44 magnum loads using unique. Used a couple different bullets and both wheelweights and linotype. 9 grains seem a bit high. Thought that the Lyman manuals covered this is great detail so you should be able to find quite a bit of loading data.

Ever place that I post says that 9 or 10 grains of Unique is too high for a 255 gr. Cast Perf. 44 mag bullet but from Beartooth bullets home page they list a 250 gr. WFNGC with 12 grains of Unique at 1261 FPS. What Gives???

I'm not familiar with the bullet weight that you're talking about, but I load 240 gr JHP using 10 gr Unique all the time. Unless I'm missing something.. which could be! it sounds to me like you're at least in the ballpark.

By the way, I checked the one reloading manual that I have access to right now.. no listing for what you're asking.

255 grain #429244 in linotype 8.9 to 12.1 grains Unique.

My standard load for my Redhawk behind a 240 grain is 12.3 grains of UNIQUE.

Here is a thought, the difference in the data you are seeing, as to what is safe, maybe because of a difference in the primers used. Standard primers work great for Unique in .44 mag.

The data with the lower numbers maybe based upon using magnum primers which can raise the pressure significantly, so pay attention to the recommended primer.
