First range day of '24 - 8mm Rem Mag
Finally some nice weather! I have been working different bullets with this Remington 700, mostly with IMR-7828 SSC. But my Swift A-frames don't seem to like it. Today, I ran Vihtavouri N568 and had success. My 220 A-frames ran 2,909/10.6 with good groups, <1" if I don't pull a shot (rusty after a few months off).
Also first time out for my Garmin chrono. I'm sold! Tiny, easy to use, doesn't eat battery. It has less capability than LabRadar (won't record velocity downrange), but for what I do, it's a winner. My LabRadar is going on the shelf. Last edited by ligonierbill; February 24, 2024 at 02:00 PM. |

Swift load data stops at H-4831, with many loads of faster powder that give over 2800fps with 220 A-Frame. IMR 4831, RL19, RL22, IMR4350, and H4350.

I'm coloring outside the lines to a degree. Sierra (I corrected my error) book load with their 220 SGK over IMR-7828 SSC runs about 2,950 for me, as does the 220 Woodleigh Weldcore (hope the Aussies come back soon). That big case wants a slow powder. So I did a little "extrapolation", backed off aways, and ran the N568. I will probably stay with my Sierra load and GameKings, though.
Mostly I was happy to get out, and that Garmin is great. |
