44 mag load suggestions

Just got a box of Laser cast 240gr lead cast semi wad cutters.
looking to load them up for basic plinking at the range. Powders I have on hand are Universal, reddot, and some 2400. I'm thinking universal but i have a ton of reddot . Anyone reloading 44 mag with it? I tried it in my 45acp didn't like it. Prefered WST in that.

Ruger Super Redhawk 44mag
Kimber CDPii 45 auto
Kahr PM 9
Smith and Wesson Air weight 38plus P

Yes I have used Universal with lighter loads in my 44 mag. I think they were down to 200 grn plated bullets. These are such a joy to shoot at a range or plink with. I use win 296 with 255 grn GC hardcast when I need all I can get, like backup on a bear hunt. My was also a SRH, 7.5" barrel.

Alliant lists Red Dot loads for .44 Magnum in their 2005 reloading manual.

Go to page 45 under "cowboy action loads" and they have recommended loads for Red Dot and 240 grain Laser Cast bullets.

Here's the online link to the 2005 manual.

I have used Red Dot and it worked great. Call Oregon Trail and they will give you the load data you need. Good bullet by the way.

I use that bullet in my Redhawk, but with Trailboss. Using 6.7gr, I get 1000fps with a 5.5" barrel. That's faster than I should be getting, but I also get faster than expected with other loads (different powder and bullet).

At 1000fps, it's a nice easy shooting load and accurate.

I know that you didn't list this powder, but I like W231 @10.0 grs. It is on the mild side and very accrate. Max is 11.0 grs. I got this load from Lyman #48 Reloading Manual.
