My review of Ruger SR762
Quick bio:
Ex navy search & rescue...Also non-compliant MIO boarding in the red sea. Experienced ammo hand loader. Avid hunter. So I got a Ruger SR762 a while back. I had been wanting a more accurate semi automatic.308 than my saiga for hogs and steel targets.....and I just wanted one. After much research and shopping, I decided to go with the Ruger SR 762. I put a Swarovski Z3 4x12x50 and offset the Ruger sights 45 degrees that came with the rifle. I mounted the scope using Burris xtr signature rings. Before making modifications, I decided to try the factory trigger everyone complains about. Well, what they say is true, the SR762's trigger is as bad as they say so after 150 rounds I swapped it for a 4 lb Timney . I also put on a large charging handle making it easier to operate under a scope. The gun shot about 3/4 to 1.25 MOA using my own homemade.308 plinking ammo. The plinking ammo was made for a 1:12 twist gun so I made a new load using 165 grain Sierra game kings and 46 gr CFE 223. I was able to get an average.5 moa at 200 yards with that combo. One thing i noticed, for all the carrier tilt alarmists, is that Ruger added ramps keeping the carrier straight into the tube and a heavy buffer tube. after now 1k rounds, the finish is still there on my tube. I have not stretched it beyond 200 yards yet but that is my next test. However, I am comfortable now saying that the 762 is a fun and accurate rifle and runs very clean due to the piston. |
