Large rifle primer used for large pistol?

I saw on another thread people using small rifle primers for small pistol loads.

Is the same true for large rifle primers being used for large pistol loads?

Large rifle primers are taller than large pistol, risking high primer slam fire and are not recommended.
I deepened the primer pockets of ten .45 ACP to take rifle primers flush and a 1911 fired them all. So if you want to go to the trouble, a primer pocket uniformer is the tool.

By the way, I have had misfires with CCI BR4 in 9mm. I knew CCI pistol primers were "harder" looks like their rifle primers are, too.

Thanks. I didn't know if it would come down to that, but desperate times ..... and all.

Are bench rest primers harder than the #400?

I don't know, I didn't have any regular CCI 400. My other small rifle primers are Federal and Winchester.
All worked fine in tryouts but those BR4s shot me down at matches.
I have been retesting in other guns which are doing fine with them, I will take one to a match Wednesday.
