K98 date

i just recently acquired a K98 to add to my collection. the date on it is quite curious. the code is BNZ so its a Styer Austria Manufacture. but back to the date; its only marked a 4. not 44 not 43 just 4. no grinding has been done to it and its all original except the guy i bought it from had "bunny ears" and a peep installed on it. kindda like the peeps personally. the peep was installed by drilling threds on the "v" groove and screwed a metal rod in it. anyway anyone know about the date on it? and any other history with it would be great! thanks again

"4" is "44". To save making a new stamp, they just ground the "3" off the "43" stamp. The US did the same with some cartridge head bunters in WWII, so some ammo dates read just "4" for "44".
