Smithsonian Collection of Revolvers & Rifles
On the Smithsonian website, they offer some high resolution zoom photos of their small collection of civil war revolvers and rifles, and there's also an 1855 -1860 Green River knife.
The Remington looks nicer than any original that I've ever seen before. There's 4 C&B revolvers. Clicking on the photo enlarges it and then you can zoom in and pan using your cursor: 1. Griswold & Gunnison --->>> http://americanhistory.si.edu/collec...ct/nmah_417600 2. Remington New Model Army --->>> http://americanhistory.si.edu/collec...ct/nmah_416581 3. Kerr --->>> http://americanhistory.si.edu/collec...ct/nmah_416169 4. LeMat --->>> http://americanhistory.si.edu/collec...ct/nmah_416556 5. Russell Green River Knife made 1855-1860--->>> http://americanhistory.si.edu/collec...t/nmah_1065606 All but the knife are listed under the civil war 150 - tools of war collection:--->>> http://americanhistory.si.edu/collec...0/tools-of-war Last edited by arcticap; January 30, 2019 at 12:26 PM. |

Does anybody know if the Smithsonian American History Museum displays guns anymore? They used to have an extensive exhibit but I haven't returned since they remodeled.

Still looking ???
Quote:
I've been searching and will keep doing so but so far, have not come up with much. The last time I was there, I saw my first Hawken out of St. Louis and some great Bowies pattern knives. You'd think they still had some collection, they would be easy to find. I may have to contact them. …… Gary, See if this helps but looks like you have to work for it !!! At least it's a start. http://americanhistory.si.edu/collec...arms&op=Search Be Safe !!!

Thanks Pahoo. I know they've got a wonderful collection, but I wonder if it's displayed anymore. Last time I was in DC, the Smithsonian American-Indian (or is it Indigenous Peoples?) Museum had more firearms displayed than the American History Museum.

It get a little eaiser
Gary,
Looks like we have to be very specific on what we are searching for. As an example, if you are looking for Colts, in the search field, type in Colt. I still have not found my Hawken. ….. Be Safe !!!

Pahoo - let me know if you ever visit New Mexico. I'll take a trip down to a small town north of Santa Fe if you want to see Hawkens.
