Savage 110 Trail Hunter .223

Looking to buy the new Savage 110 trail hunter chambered in 223. I already have a Vortex 4-12x44 scope (1” tube) I’d like to mount on it. Looking at the DNZ Game reaper 1 piece mounts/rings. I know I need short action, but would medium rings work on it? Mainly worried about the bell of the scope and bolt clearance. Thanks

Medium rings will work, low will probably work as well without bolt interference. What really matters is where your eye lines up with the optic using a proper cheek weld. If you mount the scope too high you'll shoot better with a comb riser. If it's mounted low use a taller mount. You may want to order both mounts and return or sell the one you don't use.

Low's MIGHT work, It depends on the exact scope, rifle and bases. Generally speaking, low rings work fine up to 40mm. From 40-44 it just depends. I've mounted some 42 mm scopes in low rings, and it was close. Never tried 44mm in lows but it might work. If I were unsure, I'd start with medium rings.
