AK reciever

I have a romanian AK 47, One of the single stack models. I dont have the money for a new reciever or a new AK. So my question is, Can i open up the magwell to accept hi cap mags. I have a Garage full of every tool imagineable. (they were all enherited so i cant sell them to get a new AK or a reciever. ) I just wondered if this was possible, and if it is can some one give me instructions. And if this can not be accomplished by me can i eventualy (when i get enough money) take the rifle to a gunsmith to have it done

Thanks.

As I understand it, CAI converts them by widening the receiver well and welding a couple of reinforcements to the inside to brace the magazine. This is necessary because the single-stack WASR doesn't have the dimples on either side that brace the double-stack magazine in a standard AK.

If you have the tools and are handy I suppose you could do it, but I wouldn't try it without at least examining one done by CAI already. You should be able to find one in an area gun shop or at a gun show.

Your other option would be to sell the single-stack model and buy a double.
