Winchester Silvertip brass?

I am not yet reloading, however I am buying only Winchester ammo to stock up on brass. I have found the Ballistic Silvertip and almost bought a box (20 for $24) when I peeked and found that they had metal (read not brass) cases. Can these be reloaded as well? Do they involve different equipment like stronger/sharper case trimmers?

Thanks for your knowledge.

??? Mebbee nickle plated?

If you mean that you thought they were steel, I suspect that you were mistaken. I suspect that they were nickle-plated brass.

4 basic types of brass that I know of, you guys can probrably list 200 more,

1. Brass ok to reload
2. Nickel plated ok to reload shiny silver
3. CCI Aluminum stuff not reloadable dull grey
4. Steel, not reloadable. normaly coated, test with a magnet

This does not take primer types into acount, but the nickel and brass are good for reloadong, you don't want to mix them on upper level loads,
when in doubt toss it.

I have found silvertip bullets in 150, 168,and 180 GR's. They come in 50 ct boxes but I have not been able to find a price. Do any of you reload with these? What are your thoughts?

These Bullets are made by Combined Technoligies. Winchester and Nosler combined to make them. There really a great bullet and very explosive.
I use them in almost all my rifles, even the 338 UM in a 200 grn.
The Winchester brass that your talking about is nickel plated and can be reloaded like all brass.

Here's a link to loading componets and the Silvertip bullets your looking for.

Silvertips have always been my favorite carry ammo. I have used it in all of my semi-autos, (380, 9mm, 40S&W and 45 ACP. Have also used them in my357 mag revolvers. Have used STHPs to dispatch injured animals and have never needed more than one shot. I think the Silvertip is too often overlooked in favor of newer,(but not necessarily better) rounds.
