Also, here is the hand guard again. I decided to do a bit of digging while it was off the gun. put some slip2000 carbon killer on it, went at it with a brass cleaning pick. everything flaked away. So no cutting thankfully, just lots of buildup. But that was still an awful lot of build up. Had chunks of carbon coming off.

Based on your photos, I'd say 1) the circular deposit on the top of the barrel clearly indicates the block is out of clock with the barrel; and 2) the port on the inside is clearly tearing your bullets as they go by, you can see the elongation towards the muzzle. That in itself is not necessarily a bad thing, all ports wear as time goes on--but it also looks like at a bear minimum it's it's aggregating gunk down inside the port, I can't tell for sure how far erosion has gone based on the photo--something like a Hawkeye would get better resolution--but it does look like it is accelerating on the side of the grooves and port opening "downwind" of the port. A barrel like that would go into my big paperweight barrels pile. No need to waste any more ammo IMO.

Ordered a ballistic advantage barrel today. 16in, mid length, hansen profile. They have a 1moa guarantee, 3 shots magazine fed, or 5 shots single loaded. Also Ordered an aero precision adjustable gas block.
On another note, i called ballistic advantage and was able to talk to a real person on the phone in under 30 seconds. I think in the future i will only deal with a company i can call. Online forms, and voice mails saying you have to leave a voicemail for a call back are now a no-go in my book.

While I've never had any issues with Faxon and have been impressed by them, I've been even happier with BA. I hope this BA barrel treats you well.

BA had the option to substitute a superlative adjustable, but they were out of stock. Im also not sure how i feel about having it intentionally bleed off under the hand guard. I took a hood look at the aero a while back. Seemed like a good simple system

I have gone back and forth with them several times now. Only thing concrete I have gotten was that they want me to shoot a 5-10 shot group with Federal Gold Medal Match and no muzzle device and that " If this does not work, we can look at replacement for this!" so I bought a $35 box of 77g federal gold medal match. Hoping to get to the range Monday if the weather cooperates.

Send me that Faxon barrel. I’ll use it for a short fence post or bury it where nobody will ever find it.

Crown looked fine as far as i can see. No burrs, chips, or dings. It had a plastic protector on it when it arrived. Put an a2 on it after the protector came off. So it should have been safe.
Ill post a pic of the groups i get, planning on Monday, weather lols like it will be ok. Going to shoot 3 groups, 10 shots each. Got tge 77g gmm, m193, and some imi 77g razor core. They asked for factory ammo results, im gonna give it to em. At this point i feel like they dont believe me, and im gonna do what they asked and then some so there is no question.

This experience unfortunately does not match up with the one I had when dealing with Faxon--I'm sorry it turned out that way--but I'm still hoping they'll make good for you. I bet they will in end.

Made it to the range today. Interesting results. Pics incoming in a bit once I get done analyzing everything. All shots were done with no muzzle device per Faxon.
10rnd groups, 5 rounds fired, 5min cool down inbetween Federal Gold Medal Match Group 1, 2.25moa, Mean Radius 0.53moa Federal Gold Medal Match group 2, 1.15moa, mean radius 0.41moa IMI Razorcore 77g, 1.43moa, mean radius 0.46moa M193 55g, 4.98moa, mean radius 1.32moa Hand load with 75g hornady match bullets, 2.76moa, mean radius 0.94moa Thoughts The only 2 loads that have shot reasonably well out of this gun so far are the federal and IMI. Both loads use the 77g sierra match king bullets. It seems to dislike everything else. So far I have shot 55g hornady fmj, 75g hornady fmj, 55g lehigh controlled chaos solid copper, 77g IMI razor core, M193, and Federal Gold Medal match 77g. I would think that, even with a less than ideal load, my hand loads with the 75g hornady bullets should shoot better than 2.76moa. These loads in previous testing had a SD of 10.19 and an es of 35 and were going 2652fps. I was doing seating depth tuning to try and tighten the groups but gave up last time after several groups in the 2.5-4moa range. Also, looking at r95 for the mean radius gives the best group of the day an expected dispersion of 1.72moa. Not great. Targets sent off to Faxon, will see what they say. the GMM averaged 1.7moa, which is not the best. the M193 was unacceptable imho, should be at or under 4moa.

If that is acceptable to Faxon, I would not buy one of their barrels. Like Stagpanther said, if you can't send it back, paperweight.

Well, faxon said it meets their expectations of 1.5moa to 2moa with match ammo. And having a muzzle device on the gun was most likely part of the problem.
What good is a threaded barrel that you cant put a muzzle device on, and that will only shoot 1.5moa to 2.0moa with premium match grade ammo Looks like i have a $200 paper weight. Hope my ballistics advantage barrel gets here soon. On a wait list for a criterion.

Well, after a somewhat terse e-mail from me last night I heard back from faxon today. I believe it is a different representative than i had been speaking with previously. They offered a new barrel. Either the same barrel or an upgrade to the match series. I accepted the new match barrel. They said expectation is around 1moa or better with their match barrels. Will see how it goes from there.

How is a a flash suppressor throwing your results? Did faxon explain that? Unless you have a Wylde or comp chamber I tend to agree with Faxon's statement for expected 5.56 accuracy with factory ammo. The port damage looks obvious to me--what did they say about that? Unless you really don't have confidence in your ability to put a block on and keep it on; I'd get a non-pinned adjustable block. Your new match barrel will likely have tighter chamber dimensions and (maybe) faster twist so it won't necessarily be optimal with the same ammo used for 5.56.
May the Force be with you. ![]()

They did not explain the muzzle device thing.
New barrels has a 223 wylde chamber I would have been ok with 2moa. But on average this thing was around 3. They did not mention the gas port. They are sending a return labke for the bad barrel. Im curious if they will test and analyze it, but its probably not worth their time. New barrel is not pinned. I know i can put ot on straight. I just liked the extra guarantee that it cant move. I have an aero adjustable gas block that will be going on it. Twist is 1:8, same as the previous barrel, but it is using 5r rifling.
