Magazine that work on a S&W 3914
I got a 3914 S&W and i'm just getting a bunch of question answered in Forums, Google Search, etc.
I need an extra magazine and I'm wondering what S&W models are compatible with each other magazines. (8 Single stack) That would help my search. Thank You |

Ya what Wreck-n-Crew said, you could also get a 9 rounder if you dont mind it sticking out the bottom a little, works good as a back up or the range and they are the 39, 439, 539, 639, 909, 952, 3904, 3906, 3944 & 3946 guns.
And welcome to the forum.

3913/3953/3914/3954 magazines originally came in 4 flavors: 7rd with a flush-fitting flat metal base, 7rd with a slightly protruding plastic base, 8rd with a protruding plastic base, and 8rd with a plastic base incorporating a pinky rest.
The 7-rounders were not very popular because most shooters apparently valued the extra round over slightly less grip length. AFAIK these mags have not been offered in a long time, but there are obviously some used ones and even some NOS examples in the original shrink-wrapped cardboard packaging floating around. (Newer S&W mags come in clear plastic boxes with a paper label.) The base plates for the two plastic 8-round styles can be interchanged, although I'm not sure S&W will sell the base plates to civilians separately anymore. 3913/3953/908 mags have always been stainless steel, but original 3914/3954 mags were blued. There is absolutely no difference in fit or function, but the SS ones are arguably preferable for carry due to their rust resistance, particularly in a hot and humid climate. AFAIK the blued versions have not been produced in a long time either, but again, a few old blued mags may pop up on GB or Fleabay from time to time, so check the description carefully to ensure that you get the ones you want. CS9 mags will NOT work in your pistol; they are too short. 3913/3914/etc. mags will work in the subcompact CS9, just not vice versa. Many older full-size 39-series mags are 8rd, yet are longer than the original mags for your pistol; consider yourself warned. Lastly, Promag-brand magazines have a pretty bad reputation in 3rd-gen metal-frame S&W autoloaders; IMHO you should avoid them.

[EDIT] Just realized this jonathanmanopla double-posted this question in another thread.
Mods, please delete this post. The other thread is more appropriate.
