Accuracy of 760 Rem
Have a 760 Remington pump in 30-06. I was wondering what the potential accuracy is from this pump. I understand that pumps are inherently less accurate than bolts, but for the close in distance I need, Minute-of-Moose accuracy is my goal. Wish to clean up the old girl a bit and make her respectable. Possibly rechamber to 30-06 AI, or is it possible to open up the face to accept a magnum head? If it is, then a 375 Taylor is in order (338 Win Mag punched to 375). Need info! Thanks

With the one I had, set up with peep sight and mild handloads, 1 3/4" wasn't hard, and frequent groups of 1 1/2".
Work your loads up slowly, it's a good design but not quite as strong as a new bolt action. Instead of the stuff you're talking about, leave it a 30-06 or make it into 35 Whelan. |

Had a 3X9 on mine & with handloads (Sierra 200 gr GameKings) did get a few 1/2" 100 yd 3 shot groups from it - the potential's certainly there. 100% free-floated bbl & all ... Settled on a load that shoots well from 3X 30-06 & it runs right at MOA
'06 is a pretty potent round in its own right & unless you'd actually need the extra power (or the best, old stand-by "I want to") .... ? |
