2 scope questions

What is your preferred scope for an AR 15 ? out to 300 yds
What is your preferred scope for a bolt action 22 lr ? out to 100 yds

Prefered? Probably a 1-4x but those are expensive so I go fixed 3x.

Nikon P-223 3-9x40 works great on my AR. Ringin steel out to 400yds. Both my marlin model 60 an ruger 10/22 wear Simmons 8 Point 3-9x40 scopes Little much but a great scope for $50

First choice would be an ACOG,but big bucks.

I like the Leupold VX3 2.5 to 8x,B+C for an all-around scope.You can prairie dog at 300 with it.

The 3-9 Leupold Mk AR is worth a look.

I second a variable 1-4x or anything fixed in that range for a traditional AR (a carry not benchrest rifle). If you benchrest it for 300, stronger is better but I have not done it.

For a 100 yard 22... Assuming you shoot supported, I'd go with a higher power scope, a 3-9x would be average, or a fixed power unit (save money to get better glass), depending on your eyesight and your resistance to visual fatigue.

For extra $$ you can have a scope with a red dot and a reticle. Leupold and Trijicon sell them. I bought mine from Leupold, and it gives you the best of both.

I have one of leupolds AR series scopes with mil dot, its variable from 7 to 18. On the bench there is no poi change from 7 to 18 at 100 yards, good scope.

For my 3 gun competition we regularly shoot out to 500 yards, always further than 300. I prefer my Burris MTac 1-4x for that work. The 4x power is plenty for the longer shots, and the 1x low end is great for close range shots.

Pick the 1-4X of your choice for the AR.

On a 22 I like something along the lines of a 2-7X. You don't need a lot of magnification, but 7x is going to work

You don't mention budget, but you can spend $1,000 or more on optics. I don't really like many of the sub $200 versions. I feel they are not a good value long term. LOts of good $200-$300 glass out there.

Preferred scope for a 22 LR bolt out to 100 yds? Presently have a 6-24x44 SideFocus BSA DX Hunter on a Marlin XT22. Like it simply because I can plainly see the holes in my 100 yd target with my 65 yr old eyes. The DX Hunters reticle could be thinner, but its four vertical reticle lines suit me for not having to adjust the elevation with the turret that much, depending on the 22 ammo I'm shooting. This works for me.

Gent I shoot with has a Sightron 36X scope on his Savage Mark II 22 LR that he is happy with. Have a 36X Platinum BSA scope that I could put on my 22 LR that would work just fine, especially since it has a very fine reticle.

I'm mounting a 6.5X20 Simmons on a Win. 52 right now, waiting on a set of rings. I'm gonna sight it in at 100 yds. and try to win the local Double Dog Dare next year. For a 10/22 I have one with a 4 to 12 Simmons and I've used a 4X Weaver on another. It comes down to preference and what you're gonna do with the gun. A 4X will do most anything you want to do unless you're shooting small targets at long range.
