Which is the cleanest?
What is the best powder for reloading the .223 ,as far as leaving the least residue and carbon? I'm loading for a AR 15 with the standard gas system, not the newer piston type. I'm looking to cut down on the amount of carbon build up I'm getting. Thanks

I've only used Hogdon H335 for .223 in my AR, but I've had good experiences with it, and it appears to be a popular powder for the application. Also, it meters very accurately in my Lee powder measures.

Also BL-C(2) has been highly recommended to me by other reloaders, but as far as cleanliness, I have not tried it for .223.

Another nod for H335. Burns clean and meters great. Shoots well. It's all I load in .223.

Varget has been my favorite. I haven't tried it against the Reloader powders or Vihta Vouhri (kinda hate powders I can't spell!)- but it stacks up well against IMR.

I like 748 but haven't compared it to H335.

I use IMR-4895 and 748. Both are clean but i think the IMR is more so.
