2200 from Powder Valley

Powder Valley has powder called 2200, VERY cheap right now. Who makes it, Accuate Arms? At $47/8lbs, I`m tempted to buy it, and they say it`s versatile, but is it a GREAT powder, for say, 223, or 308? If so, could you cut loose with a couple "recipes"? Thanks Bruthas!

A friend of mine bought a couple of jugs of 2200 a few years back because it was cheap, had a lot of problems getting it to cycle his AR15, and blowing primers, it has since be sitting on a shelf and hes back to using 748, all the problems went away.

Thanks BH, that`s what I primarily had in mind for it. That`s all I had to hear!

That's supposed to be a darned good powder for 7.62x39...

In fact, Accurate Arms lists it as being closer in burning rate to AA1680, arguably the perfect powder for 7.62x39. AA2200 is really a bit too fast in burning rate for .308 Winchester, but for .223 Remington it should work, although not optimally.

I kick myself for not getting any of that 2200 when it was going for so cheap, my AK and SKS chew through my handloads 10, 30, and 75 rounds at a time.

Will work OK for light bullet 223, good for prarie dogs. Do not try this for heavy bullet match loads!!!! The ISRA junior team tried this about three or four years ago and it sucked. Popped primers, blown cases, in one case a shooter blew up a gun. That shooter is now on the AMU BTW. The AR's are strong, but certain things should not be cheaped on. We started calling this stuff, "Super Blammo". Semper Fidelis...Ken M

Had very good luck with it in 444 Marlin, 35 Rem, 445 Super (little too slow), 30/30.

Just tried it in the 357 Max but it is also too slow for that application.

Take a look into the various Surplus powders such as the WC844 for the 223. Around the H335 burning rate. Also 8208 (H322)

Regards

Gewehr, I just saw an ad for the stuff, in the latest Shotgun News, $47/8lbs. Powder Valley is selling it. Just thought you`d want to know!

Works fine with light bullets in the .223. Is REALLY COOL in the 6PPC with light bullets. Like, 4,000 fps with a 55 gr. Nosler, but with heavy cratering which I wouldn't recommend to most folks...

3,800 fps was a much calmer node...
