Are these good shotguns ? What is the difference between the Ithica hammerless SxS doubles and the ones with the cocking indicators ? The Gun Traders Guide doesn't mention cocking indicators. Is $300 for one in good operating condition reasonable ?

Hi Arnie, greetings from Texas. The very early New Ithaca Double (NID) models had snail-ear cocking indicators, but it was dropped fairly early on. This feature allowed water to enter the action body and rust to lock parts. If your gun is in the 425000-450000 serial number range, it's an early NID from 1925-6. The highest NID numbers were in the 470000 range, from the late 40's. If your gun isn't in thise range given, repost with the number range for your gun. If in nice condition with shootable stock dimensions, 300 bucks is a very good deal for an NID, possibly so-so for Flues or other models. Repost more and I'll see if I can help further. Thanks, OL
