If you're saying the pistol is new and never fired or owned by anyone else, the price should be the same as any new Model 229 is; whatever that is.

It also was manufactured in 1993, and has triple serial numbers.

I'd agree with dgludwig. I don't think it holds any "collector value" if that's what your thinking. At least it wouldn't to me.

Check Gunbroker to see what they are going for. I've seen very nice 9mm P228s from that era go for around $550-600 recently. I imagine .40SW P229s would go for a bit less.

40 calibers sell for less money these days. There have been a lot of police trade-in Sig 40's dumped on the market lately. I have seen some with holster wear selling in the low $300 range.

I paid $450 for mine in .40 that is something like a 2006 vintage and is not the base model, it's not the most expensive one but is somewhere in the middle with a couple goodies, which I'm fairly confident was barely shot, not a police trade in rather a home defense pistol from someone who just decided they didn't need to own a gun ..
At the time I knew nothing about pistols, asked my buddy who works at a gun shop and without even looking at it was offered $600 for it on the spot because it was a 229. Personally I don't see the point in the 229 - too big for reasonable concealed carry, yet capacity is reduced because it's "compact". On my short list is a 226 tacops - 17 of .40 or 20 of 9 mm - to me that is a better one to wear in the open and I bet the 9 mm version is outstanding for lots of quick follow up shots. |
