Took some 9 mm European service pistols to the range this morning. Weather was fantastic nice temperature and great light and sunshine.

Four very different guns, but all fairly similar results on target even though no one would suggest that a Glock has the same accuracy potential as a SIG P210. An interesting lesson there.
Nice shooting!

And another beautiful day in the Swiss country side
Unfortunately I didn’t know the range closed at 4 pm due to Covid instead of 5 pm so I had only half an hour instead of an hour and a half 2003 CZ 75 automatic (shot in semi auto) 1986 HM P7 M8 2017 Glock 19 gen 3 |

Is handloading a popular thing in Switzerland or do folks just buy factory ammo?

It is / was quite popular
But lately I’ve seen the price of components rise while price for factory ammo has decreased, reducing or negating savings when reloading |

In spending two weeks in Europe, a stop in Lucerne? It seemed like litter was banned!
I never saw any, not a piece of trash. Never saw a vehicle run across the white line at traffic lights, ever. That same line in Orlando seems more of a suggestion. Every young person seemed to speak way more than one language. Fired my first Sig 210 in England when I joined my first Gun Club. I think I was 18 YOA? Just had my 85 birthday! Who would have thought it? |

Well more like shooting US guns this time
Indoor range 25 m pistols and 50 m rifle I put fresh springs in the three USGI pistols. I won’t shoot them much but I had to make sure they function well and go bang Colt 1911 (1913) This one was hard work, the trigger breaks at 10 lbs Colt 1911A1 (1943) Remington Rand 1911A1 (1943) ArmaLite AR-10 (1958) Springfield Armory M1A (2011) And some rapid fire at 50 m First time firing this new to me rifle, worked flawlessly with 3 different brands of ammo, and felt great. The mass of the rifle absorbs the recoil nicely, especially compared to the light AR-10 which kicks noticeably more |

I've admired your posts here and on the S&W forums, you have some nice firearms!
The talk of ammo prices in Europe encourage me greatly, $200/1000 is (was) the standard price for 9mm S&B here in the US before this year's mess; and that remains my preferred brand. Seeing it stay "normal" over there tells me it will calm down here, and come back down in time. I should have enough stashed away to avoid paying for anything above that. |

More Swiss shooting
The last two Saturdays a couple of friends and I decided to do something different. We have access to the summer range since my buddies are in the shooting committee, one of them is actually the President of the Association and they have the keys. They also got the green light from the local authorities. The weather was fairly nice and mostly dry.
I picked up some solid frying pans from the junkyard. Some rattle can spray. You see where this is going. We attached them with wire to the frame at the 50 m lanes (there’s also this little metallic arrow, and we shot some cigar tubes as well, those are challenging targets even with a scoped .22 and a little wind). And off they go This is what it looks like at 50 meters We brought several guns with us and decided to limit it to .22 lr. since families like to stroll in this region and we didn’t want to be too much of a nuisance. Scoped Savage Mark II bolt action (not pictured) FN Trombone pump action Scoped Ruger 10-22 semi auto Sig P210 .22 lr conversion AMT Lightning One buddy brought this nice S&W 17-6 8 3/8” and a semi auto FN in .22 short Another buddy brought a CZ 457 bolt action rifle and his new Glock 44 Last edited by Classic12; December 29, 2020 at 07:37 PM. |

Temperature is cold but the range is hot
We had a ton of (cheap) fun and blasted some 7-800 rounds.. Good thing I recently bought 5000 rounds at $ 90.-/1000 I also brought along my two Anacondas to show them to my friends. They couldn’t resist and insisted we put a couple of rounds with the 4”. I had some old Remington 240 JHP in the speedloaders Went trough like butter Another great shooting day in Switzerland. |

If Omega made guns like it makes watches, I'd sell every gun I own and buy Omega.

Thank you and happy New Year to you too That’s a tough one, akin to choosing a favourite child but I probably have to say the Beretta 93 R, had it for over 20 years and still love it My first rifle, bought 27 years ago, still an amazing look But if I could keep only one I would retain the Colt XM 177 E2 I don’t really have a need for a self defence gun as I live in a very safe country and area and carry is severely restricted nowadays but I’d probably go with my Sig P229 in .357 Sig |

Happy New Year Classic12,
I agree with your choice of the Sig P229. It was by a massively huge margin that would dwarf the breadth of the Pacific Ocean the best on-duty handgun I've carried. That handgun redefined double-action semiauto consistency and reliability No revolver ever created -excluding Korth- is close to its equal. Mine is chambered for the .40 S&W, which is a very powerful cartridge. However, my favorite handgun is the Springfield Armory TRP .45 ACP. Shooting one causes shooters to forget all other handguns. If you haven't fired a Springfield Armory TRP .45 ACP, I would suggest you do with the caveat that you'd become likely to retire all of your other handguns. I don't have a rifle for self-defense. I do love the precision craftsmanship of Sako AV Classic big game rifles. Switzerland has one of the lowest crimes rates in the world. I'm sure its government trusting its citizens with guns has a lot to do with Switzerland's nonexistent crime rate. There's reason Omega was the first and only watch on the moon. There's darn good reason NASA astronauts relied upon and continue to rely upon Omega Speedmaster. A copy of Omega Speedmaster saved lives of Apollo 13 Astronauts. Omega is official timekeeper of IOC. I believe Omega is the still the most accurate chronometer in the world. Rolex has progressed substantially in precision. Had Rolex focused on precision rather than captivating bling-bling, it might have attained Omega's status as most accurate watch in world. Three countries in the world produce the most precise everything: Germany, Switzerland, and USA. USA is impeded by marauding pettifoggers who're motivated to steal what others have earned and palm it off as justice. |
