Ruger SR 556/general AR question
Hi all
First post here, so I hope I'm in the correct section. I'm coming from a background in AK systems, so please excuse my ignorance about the AR platform. I've recently purchased an SR556 as my first AR, and I am surprised at the amount of wiggle there seems to be between the upper and lower receivers. I'm pretty sure the rifle will function just fine (haven't had it out yet), but I'm curious if this is a common phenomenon with ARs. Basically, just a lot of play between the two receiver parts. Your comments/advise is very welcome. Thanks. |

That is fairly common with AR's. The upper and lower is attached by two pins and it should not negatively affect the rifles function. However, last time i handled an SR556 i was very impressed with how tight the upper was to the lower. But then again, no two rifles are exactly identical.

It will not hurt anything but if it bothers you, you can get "the Wedge" for about 5 bucks and it will eliminate the issue.

My SR-556 has a tiny bit of play (I've seen ARs with a lot more) and doesn't seem to affect accuracy at all. I'm probably still going to put a "wedge" into it just because I'm fussy that way
Everything else I have to say about the SR-556 is here.

My SR556 is rock solid, but the wedge advice given a few posts above is sound. If I'm not mistaken the wedge is slipped into the lower and tightens it up for you.

Thanks for the info guys. There is not a HUGE amount of play in it, but I don't like rattle sounds from my weapons. I'll give "the wedge" a try.
Thanks for the input. |
