1861 US Springfield.
I just bought this 1862 dated '61 Springfield. The 1861 model Springfield was the primary arm used during the Civil War with over one million having been produced. I must say that I feel humbled when I hold it and think about the history it has been through.
Was it at Gettysburg? The Wilderness? A great many of these were captured by the Confederates and used against the Union, so it could have been on either side of so many battles. |

Its a shame somebody cleaned all the patina off of it. Nice one tho. Better make sure its not loaded if you plan on shooting it.
