All of that ^ is the answer, and "crazy tester of all physical limits" and regular participant in the Handloading & Reloading area of TFL Forums, poster Clark has done comparison testing between both cases and has come to the same conclusion.
It's the small primer in the .40 S&W case that makes it a more solid foundation for pressure than the 10mm case does.
