Remington Model 8 .30-30

I've recently inherited a couple guns, among them two stand out. One, as I've determined, is a Winchester .30-30 Model 1894, with a serial that dates it from 1898. This gun shoots amazingly, but unfortunately it was tapped for a scope and thus it's collectable value has been reduced.

In addition to that, I also received a Remington Model 8. From my research, these came in various sizes, but none were .30-30. My gun, however, is very clearly labeled .30-30. How could this happen? Pics are possible if needed.

Also, if anyone could give an estimate of the value of the Remington, or if anyone knows someone looking for one, let me know. Thanks!

I have read that some of the early Remington Model 8s were sold as ".30-30 rimless" but were chambered in .30 Remington nonetheless.

WHOA!

You have a VERY early Model 8!

Jim is correct, the first few thousand were marked .30-30 Remington Rimless or some variation there of.

How many digits in the serial number?

You have a pretty uncommon rifle there.

I just came back up to school and left the gun at home. I'll try to take some pics and post them when I come back.
