Pacific/Hornady M scale instructions
Just bought a nice older one(price was good anyway)...but no instructions. Has a leveling screw?? on the base far left, and two nuts(calibration??) far right on the beam.
Proper adjustment method for these two items? Good scale, bad scale?

you have a great scale
Hi,
I have the same scale since 91' and it is very precise. To calibrate it, put it on a flat and level surface ( by the looks of it the nuts are positioned OK to start with) then play with the levelling screw until you get a "0" reading. ( only needs to be done once, after that when you put it on the same surface, minor adjustments on teh scrw will bring it to "0". in 2000 I got a Dillon electronic scale (won it in a match) and even today, if I weigh the same items with both scales I get exactly the same readings. Thanks Dannyl, i hoped it was an acceptable scale, since they were making them for so long. Evidently discontinued recently, but it should get me up and running. 10 dollar yard sale price, so i doubt i got hurt.
So the nuts should only ever be adjusted with a check weight, a one time thing?

Hey alloy, you might try this forum and see if someone has an owner's manual for your scale.

calibrating the scale
Hi Alloy,
if you are going to use it always on the same bench ( you can use it anywhere, the most important is to make sure that teh surface is level) then I find that if you calibrate it one time it never changes. Just moount it, and use the screw for fine-tuning. the marks are large and easy to read. as a test method I have a bullet that I have weighed on my electronic scale and it is exactly 180Gr' so once I set the scale I test it to see that it shows 180 Gr' with the said bullet, and so far it has never showed otherwise. Surely you can ask a friend or a shop to weigh some bullets ( or anything else) so that you have a test-weight. Regards, Danny |
