I don't know this was the best deal, but it was interesting. Somewhere in the 1965-66 time frame a friend from the 1950s who lived in Kansas visited me in Ohio. He asked if I would be interested in 38 revolver that his friend in Kansas had. He had no idea what it was, but I said that I would like to see it next time he came back to Ohio.
He went back to Kansas and I forgot about the revolver. Some weeks later I went to the mail box to get the mail and inside was this shoe box tied up with string, which was coming apart, and newspaper inside. In the box was a holstered British Enfield revolver in 38 S&W, double action only - no hammer spur, and a note that he wanted $25.00 for it.
I still have it. Lucky to hit a bushel basket at 50 feet.

I found a new Ruger MkII in a pawn shop in Wisconsin. Still had the inspection sticker on the frame. Said never shot, and looked that way. Came from an estate sale. I guess it would be considered used, even though never fired? I paid $250 for it. This was about 3 years ago, and used ones were going for more than that. I also got a used Taurus model 83 in .38spcl that needed some serious cleaning. Paid $190 for it. It cleaned up real well. It is surprisingly accurate.

A friend of mine quit shooting CAS about 10 years ago. Just a few weeks ago he sold me his cowboy action guns. I got a Winchester 94 in 357 magnum and a set of consecutive serial number birdshead Old Vaqueros also in 357. He threw in a S&W 640 all for $1200.

M&P45 duty size police trade-in for $200. Well worn from hip draw but seemed solid. I didn’t say anything about the price because I didn’t want them to see the error of their ways. Was nice, barked like a dog though. Recoil mitigation was not its specialty. Had a squishy trigger too. I sold it a couple years later for $375.

Wish I could say it was a home run for me. Can’t lie because it wasn’t. It got me introduced to the caliber though.

I traded a Ruger MK I Target w/ 6 7/8 " bbl. in 22 LR for a S&W model 58 N-frame 41 Magnum . My brother thought the 41 magnum was a bit much for shooting snakes and felt the 22 LR Ruger would be much better ... I heartly agreed with him !

Best deal I ever made !

Lol lefteye!!! I do have another story. My soon-to-be ex-wife forgot her Mark II at my house. She told me to keep it (free) and then proceeded to call me a bunch of bad names. The Arisaka story had a happier ending. I will do better to stay on point.

This like new Browning Medalist for $300.00. One of the very few used firearms I ever bought.

Best Deal or Best Deal Missed

1971, I returned from SEA. I went into a gun shop in Macon, GA to by my first hand gun. They had a .44 Auto-Mag for just under $500.00. I was single and a SSgt in the USAF. How I wanted it, but $500.00 was a lot of money then. I ended up buying a Ruger Blackhawk for $71.00. How, I wished I bought that Auto-Mag instead.

As much as I paid for it overall, I think that the best deal that I ever got was on my Heckler & Koch USP45 Elite.

This gun cost me about $1050, which may seem like a lot, but I bought it in March of 2021 when Pandemic Gunbuying was in full swing and prices were inflated across the board. At the time, the H&K USP45 Elite was going for $1500. When I first ordered it, I was half expecting for the seller to cancel the order because the listed price was a typo, but he completed/shipped the order.

I've wanted one of these since I first laid eyes on them in 2018, but due to the combined price and rarity, I never thought that I would ever be able to obtain one.

1975, in Honolulu, Hawaii, got a like knew S&W model 19 357 mag for 40 dollars.

A month earlier, the USN ship I was stationed on had a new-in-box Winchester 70 target rifle in 308 Winchester I paid 50 dollars for.

Best deal ever: About three years ago l found a early Luftwaffe Femaru M37 from the first (1941) contract at a small gun store. $150 OTD.

Second best deal was a Smith and Wesson Model 1899 First Model Target, one of less than a handful known to still exist that is still in original unaltered condition. Pricked it up about four years ago for $250.

Mark I 1992 Webley (Navy) for $90. Although it has a shaved cylinder, it is functional.

Taurus SS 1911 for a Colt Officer's Target Model 22LR.

Placed the Taurus on consignment for $475. Shop owner sold the gun but needed the cash. Gave me the Colt as compensation. I'm like "are you SURE???". Felt a little bad about it though.

I've noticed a few rifles. If that is in the mix, I'd say an HK 300 [.22mag semi-auto] in good shape, for $300.

Best used firearm was, the $40 paid for a RG34,...

heavy barreled .22 revolver, Literally shotthe heck out of it!

The chambers can now partially accept a .22WMR due to firing CCI Mini-mags and Federal Hi-Power.22's

Barrel wobbles in the fram, from flame cutting.

It allowed me to go squirrel hunting during college and pick off grays and reds at 20 yards.

Still have it, been thinking about getting the frame bushed and the cylinder re-lined or turn a new steel cylinder to "bush" with the OD of the old cylinder.

The WORST deal I ever got on a handgun was a Lorcin .380 that was given to me. Still taking up precious real estate in my safe!
