Smith & Wesson MOD-38 ser.#j880xxx
Thanks
Serial number dates it to 1981.
Value depends on condition. $400 to $500 retail, a little more if you have the original box, paperwork and accessories.

You would be correct. Serial numbers in 1952 ran from K136691 to K175637.

.38 S&W CTG; the serial number on the butt of the gun and the cylinder is 193XXX. No letters, only numbers.
Thanks

Since S&W reused serial numbers across the model lines in the past, I'll need more info.
Is it .38 S&W or .38 S&W Spl (special)? Is it a 5 or 6 shot? Does the cylinder swing out to load or does the barrel tilt down?

That narrows it down to two.
If it has a hammer it would be a .38 Double Action 3rd Model. Serial numbers ran from 119001 in 1884 to 322700 in 1895.
If it is hammerless then it is a .38 Safety Hammerless 4th Model. Serial numbers ran from 116003 in 1898 to 220000 in 1907.

If this number (S80xxx) is also the same number stamped on the underside of the grip frame (you may have to remove the grips to see it) then it is not a model 19 but rather the larger framed model 357 Magnum. This later became the model 27 when S&W began using model numbers around 1957.
A serial number of S80xxx would date it to 1950/51.

Awesome. The s80xxx is the same number stamped on the butt. So I’m definitely a little excited about this find.

That was S&W’s premier revolver for many years and being an early example (commonly refered to as a pre 27) is a desirable collector gun today.

Serial numbers ran from 295000 in 1962 to 786544 in 1969. So, best guess would be 1963/64.

Have SIL's .32Lg, revovler..

no model number, I think it's past the scrapping of the I-frame and use of the early J-frame for .32's?

S/N: 6731XX

Belated Merry Christmas and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I have what I suspect is a S&W K22. I cannot find a model number on it anyway. It is a K-framed, .22LR revolver. The S/N is 252xxx. I hope to confirm the model and production year. Thank you very much.

Serial numbers ran from 125000 in 1957 to 295000 in 1962. Best guess for yours would be 1958.

K frame would have an adjustable rear sight. There should be a “K” prefix with the serial number. It might be several spaces between the k and the numbers. Assuming it is K252xxx it would date to 1955. S&W did not start using model numbers until about 1957, so it would be a K22.
