had an ffl 40n yrs. ago and bought/sold on limited basis. had hands on many "cool" handguns. would love to have a 4" and 6" colt python and a 22 diamond back (4" 22lr). oh well--times change.
Four and six inch pythons:

And a four inch .22 LR Diamondback (incorrect grips but they work):

Back to around the mid '80s when Makarovs were $125 and they were everywhere to be found . . . your choice 380 or 9mm short.

That's easy,,,

Either a boxed Walker Colt,,,
or one of the Lugers that was chambered in .45 ACP.

A Colt .38 Auto, Model 1902. With the spur hammer made after 1908. I 'm not an auto guy, but that's one gun you can't get a clone of now. Besides, I just love the way it looks! With wood grip panels. I'm assuming you're not buying for resale, because it sounds like some already posted a .45 Luger.

Another vote for a blue 6" Python here. Also a Bren 10 before Miami Vice made it a "star gun".

S&W Scofield.
S&W Russian
S&W "Triple Lock"

1st model Colt patterson. 1st month of production.
Whitneyvill Walker first month of production.
(These 2 for resale when I came back to my time -- so I can have the money to feed the rest of my guns for a loooooong time)

I thought they only made 2 .45 Lugers, and one was detroyed in the testing and the other sold for over 1 Million bucks several years ago. Maybe they made more on special order, or were converted 9mm.

I would buy 2 guns. One a 2 1/2" Royal Blue Colt Python made in 1978. The other a steel frame Colt Commander in 45 ACP.

Oh what could be done if such were possible. a tompson smg, german Luger 9mm, Browning BAR, several Colt Pythons , Colt 1911. M1 Garand and M1A and an UZI back when you could get those.

I would like a new Luger. It would have to be a P08. I don't think highly of the pistol as a service weapon, I shot one and the trigger was so-so, but they were beautifully built.

Pffft. Forget about pistols. I'd like to go back to 1985 and get an icecream bucket full of HK autosears.

I would also like to have picked up one of the original Colt 44 automags like ol Dirty Harry sported back in the day.
That would be quite a trick, there are no Colt .44 Auto Mags. Never were.

And the one Dirty Harry sported in Sudden Impact wasn't a standard Auto Mag, it was custom built, by the inventor for the movie. Standard .44 Auto Mags have a 6.5" vent rib barrel. The movie gun had an 8" vent rib barrel. There was a "standard" 8in barrel gun, but it had a plain barrel, no vent rib.

Colt never made them. The were made by the Auto Mag Corp, TDE (Trust Deed Estates - a holding company after the original corp went bust), and a small number made by High Standard.

An original .44AMP vent rib gun, and two of the longer plain barrel ones, one in .44AMP, and the other in .357 AMP.

I'm with you kcub, it's a gun that even a blind man can appreciate. Mine would have a 6 1/2" barrel although the 8 3/8" barrel would be hard to resist.

A first generation Colt Single Action Army. Not only would I buy one, I'd buy two.

J. Edgar Hoover's Reg. #1 is 8 3/8.

I wouldn't resist J Edgar Hoover himself to own that one.

I think aarondgraham is on the right track with the Walker Colt. After that, I think I'd try to get hold of a Singer manufactured 1911. If the time machine was still working, I would "shoot" for a Smith-Corona manufactured ’03A3 with a six groove barrel. ..................after all, wishes come in three's don't they?

If I could turn back time I would buy all the Remington Model 1911's SN 8000001 to 8000500. SN 001 sold at action in 2010 for somewhere between $50K and $95K?

Dream Time

Ok... I'll play. I'd go back and get my self an original Colt Walker, better yet a crate of those puppies. That way I could sell a few and do a range trip with the one I'd keep.

That's simple for me . . . I'd go back far enough to where I could buy a brand new 1851 Colt Navy off the shelf . . . and I'd also buy a second one just to keep it company!

Currently looking at purchasing a Coonan Classic .357Mag.
Sent them an e-mail to set up the purchase haven't heard
back from them so it may not happen. I'm really BIG on Customer Service,
even a "hey we got your e-mail, we're busy, get back to you as soon as possible" would be nice.

If not considered the FN five seven (not really solid on this one)

Or If anything ANOTHER Dan Wesson .44 Mag.
