Looking for single stack 9mm

I've shot the SIG P239 and Kahr K9, and am familiar with the polymer variations of the Kahr.

Can anyone tell me about any other non-polymer frame single stack 9mm pistols that I ought to consider before buying?

Is this for concealed carry? Consider a military surplus Star BM 9mm -- looks like a small 1911.

Check out ParaUSA, their PDA in 9mm and LTC in 9mm are both excellent single stack pistols in 9mm. The PDA has an 8 round magazine and the proprietary LDA trigger, while the LTC is a traditional alloy framed Commander sized 1911 in 9mm with 9 round magazines.

I own a couple of Walther P5s. Single stack DA/SA 9s that are accurate and a pleasure to shoot. That's one choice you might consider. Walther also made the P88, but it tends to be pretty pricey. The Cadillac of the single stack 9mm is the HK P7M8, or P7PSP. With a fixed 4" barrel and low bore axis they are exceptionally accurate and soft shooting. It is also one of the safest CCW pistols around and has a SA trigger second to none IMHO.

The SW 3913 is an excellent single stack pistol for concealed carry. It is an alloy framed traditional double action with a safety/decocker. Below is mine in the LadySmith variation but there are non-LadySmith configurations for those not man enough to carry one.

I think the answer is the Sig P239, which you have already tried. I use the 10-round mags, which extend a bit beyond the grip.

Do look at the older 1st through 3rd generation S&W metal framed pistols. Some of their single stack 39-series guns are just wonderful for CCW.

The original S&W 9mm was the Model 39. It is a single-stack, 8+1 alloy framed pistol with good handling qualities and it's attractive to boot. The most common is the Model 39-2. These were designed as a "service pistol" for military & police work, yet they are not hard to conceal. They're only slightly smaller than a Colt Commander.

Successors to the 39 series include all of the single-stack S&W pistols. Some of these are available in 9mm, 40 and .45 Caliber. One of the most successful is the "Ladysmith" 3913 model (shown above) by KyJim. Less hyped is the model 3914 which is a similar pistol in black without the Ladysmith touches. This 3914NL had some carry wear on it when I bought it and I've added to that wear, yet it's one of my favorite carry guns because it's light, reliable, accurate and fast.

The S&W 457 is a compact .45ACP with a 6+1 capacity that's about the same size as the 3914 above. The CS-9 features a sub-compact 3" barrel with 7+1 capacity in 9mm. The best part is that most of these pistols sell on the used market in the mid to lower $400's in LNIB condition.

The 457, CS-9 and CS-45 are still in production and range from $600-$690.

The HK P7 is a fine pistol and for the price of one you can buy 3 S&W pistols. If you liked the Walther P1/P-38 design, you'll find it is almost duplicated in the S&W pistols, with a more traditional look.

I've handled and fired the Springfield EMP-9 and if the money was available, I'd certainly add that to my collection. Small, compact, accurate and nicely balanced for the 9mm.

I'm probably have the name slightly wrong, but I fired a Walther PPS 9mm (7+1 capacity) the other day and that gun quickly jumped to the top of my want-to-buy list.

H&K P7. You'll never find a better made all-steel 9mm pistol, and there's a lot of German police surplus pistols available at this time, making them affordable.

You really cannot go wrong with the HKP7. The only negative is the cost of mags.

I had a Smith CS9 that I really liked, perfect carry gun.

I am now carrying a Sig P6 which was cheap and it is a great shooting gun. I am thinking about picking up a Raven concealment systems holster for it and maybe getting it refinished, but right now it is just a sweet shooting used gun.

Another vote for the Walther P5. Carried one for many years. Very reliable, accurate and easy to conceal. Perfect for CCW.
