Reloading for the Coonan 357 mag
I finally got my Coonan after 4 long months. I've been reloading for the 357 mag for 10 years for my ruger gp100 using alliant 2400 and hornady 158gr xtp- hp's. I'm just looking to see if any one has any good advice for reloading for a 357 auto loading pistol? or good recipes.

Only a 4 month wait? Who do you know? Took me a full year to get mine. Been shooting it about a year now and I find that it likes hotter loadings best with the 357 recoil spring arrangement. Have used mostly 296 at the upper end of the spectrum but you will need to work up your own loads to see what it likes.
Being a heavy framed gun the recoil is of little concern to me with the hotter loadings. Good shooting and enjoy it- I guarantee that you will get more than a few looks at the range. Gary |

Have a whole thread dedicated specifically to this. Please post in THAT thread Posting more in this thread splits the information for anything that may get added.

Gratz on the Coonan! I love mine and I am sure you will love yours! I posted a load or two that I like on the thread linked above.

Shot placement is everything! I would rather take a round of 50BMG to the foot than a 22short to the base of the skull. all 26 of my guns are 45/70 govt, 357 mag, 22 or 12 ga... I believe in keeping it simple. Wish my wife did as well... |
