35 whelen
i reload a 35 whelen, with a 1 in 14 twist, 250 gr lead gc bullet. i had a friend that had same gun, he loaded h 870 powder and had good results, i in. at 100 yds. i purchased a can of h 870 at local gun store but i noticed a mix of stick powder as well as sper. so i called hodgdon. they said not to use it and sent me us 869. no exsisting data for my 35 whelen for this powder but i look it up and it has a slower burning rate than h 870. interesring is it not. my friend shot 61 gr. h 870. 200gr lead bullet. got any ideas on load for us 879? i have shot 53 ge 3031 in my gun, it shoots very well but i need to try this new powder. thanks for your time. c. j. sikes

Call Hodgon back and tell them to give you a starting load.

US 869 is most commonly used for .50 BMG, and a few other very high case capacity rounds, where rediculously slow burn rates are needed.
Finding data will be difficult. As kraigwy said, call Hodgdon, and ask for a starting load. |
