I use a reduced power recoil spring in my 1911 with 4.2 gn 231 with a 200 LSWC; clean, soft, very accurate.
This is my standard target/plinking load. |

231 has always been my go-to powder for .45 and MANY other applications such as .32 Long, .38 Special, and light to moderate .357 Mag.

i agree with nujudge in his statement than unique does everything and does it well, i use it for my 45 acps loads ( 7 gr of unique for a 230 rn), 40 s&w, 9mm , and 380 my dad even used to load 12ga trap loads with it, also as Teuthis said i also use bluedot alot, mostly for the mag rounds (ex: 44mag in my desert eagle, yes it has an awesome muzzle flash). i have a little soot on the end of my glock slide when i shoot over 100rnds, but what weapon doesnt have a little soot when you shoot that many rounds in one day? but all my guns get cleaned when back from the range so its not a problem

I use Hodgdson's Universal Clays for most of my .45 reloading. It's similar to Unique characteristically but burns cleaner.

aa#5
AA#5 will satisfy all of your needs for the 45acp, for the 200swc I have been shooting 8.3 grains of aa#5, its a accurate load and is a easy powder to reload with.

45 Powder
I have two powders that I use for all my calibers that work very well across all bullet weights. AA-2 and Unique. AA-2 also has a reputation for very low flash at night. The Unique charge is larger in size than the AA-2. A pound of AA-2 will load 1000 cases easily.
Good Loading. |

I use AA#5 and Unique.
My lastest plinking round is a 230 LRN over 6.0 grains of Unique. Medium recoil and very accurate. Kev |

I would look up some recipes using different powders before you go shopping. Its hard finding powder in stock especially the popular ones most people have been mentioning. I couldn't find anyone with anything in stock except 700X which I found a recipe for and green dot which the lee manual has a recipe for. I did luck out last wekend and found some unique. I loaded some rounds with the 700X and fired them at the range. No complaints on accuracy but it was very dirty. Time to try the unique which I understand is also a dirty firing powder.
