I loved mine, it was light and the factory pistol grip fit the hand well. I gave it to my Dan as an HD gun.

have one with a full buttstock and I love it. I've tried just a pistol grip and hated it.

I liked mine

Pachmeyer sells a pistol grip for it. Only reason I sold mine was for money to move on.

I love mine- have a couple extra barrels for it so it serves mulitple purposes.
No hiccups. With one of these stocks on it (I have the non-tactical version), you can shoot magnum buck, slug, or turkey loads without seeing the chiropractor..

Yup, highly recommend the CompStock. My friend has a CopStock, I had the SpecOps...neither were particularly easy to use.

it's a good gun and doesn't have a lot of the spring issues i've run into with the 590. i would spend the extra money and get a 500a mariner. in my humble opinion it's the finest 500 made. if you need it compact i'd put a Butler creek folder on it (more comfortable pistol grip than the knoxx in my opinion and mkuch cheaper.) or otherwise put a standard speedfeed on it with a limbsaver recoil pad. i respect people's opinions who like the Knoxx, i don;t think they're bad by any means I just think a limbsaver does more to reduce recoil and for a lot cheaper but that's just me.

Just picked up a new 500 yesterday. Got it home and cleaned it. I have to say for a new weapon the barrel was so dirty it took me quite a while to get it clean. I called the gun store where I bought it and they assured me it was new just out of the box. Is this normal for these things to be so dirty when new?

I have the 500 tactical and love it, I bought it becuse being a left handed shooter the 870's safety isn't great for me. Now that I have it I like it better than my old 870
