This was the most accurate powder I tried in my model 70, 30 plus yrs ago. I was loading 48.0 grains in a federal case with a 165 grain hpbt gameking bullet. This is a compressed powder charge. Starting load is 45.0 grains max is 51. Good Luck and be safe.

Did you load with LR or LR Magnum primer?

.308 loads

Tried the H380 @ 45.0 gr with magnum primer and Hornady165 gr SP per the manual and got 5" group. May not put too much effort into it as other powders are getting me much tighter groups with starting loads. Thanks for the input.

I have been using IMR 4064 powder, 43 grains under a 165 grain BTSP and getting really good results.

Oh I forgot to mention that I am using a Remington Magnum LR primmer.

You might also give BLC2 a try. It was specifically engineered for that cartridge.

4064 and BL-C(2) are both great recommendations. I also would recommend you try Varget and Vihtavuori N-550 (if you can find it) as well.

.308 loads

I have tried IMR4064 & 165 gr Nosler BT and started at 29.2gr powder and got decents group and also used the Hornady 165 SP and was almost as good. Also tried it in Nosler 165g BTSP but got larger groups. Both with CCI #200 LR primers. Working on a good load for deer at 100-200 yards.

if you try Hornady 168's and 39.1 grains of imr 3031 you will get an accurate load.
I shot 10 shots at 100 yards into one hole from Savage 112 308 winchester.
41.0 grains of imr 4895 will get you about the same thing

I load on a progresive press and BLC is just the ticket for me. 44grains behind a 165 and its a one hole at 100 yards as well.
it great round for my M1As and match shooting as well.
gives me outstanding results out over 600 yards.

My best groups were with VV N140 and Berger 168 VLD's. Sub MOA @ 200 yards with Fed LR match primers. Only had 2 lbs of it and haven't had it since. Still searching myself for another keeper. But have about 340 rounds loaded and no time to try.

I think you need to check your 165 bullet load Hogdon list that load at
42.0 to 46.3 max
NOT 29.2 THIS LOAD IS ONLY 3 GRAINS OVER MAX FOR A 223 AND IT WILL NOT KILL ANYTHING BIGGER THAN A COYOTE
AT CLOSE RANGE MAYBE.

Never tried that powder?

I have used IMR 4064, IMR 4895,H4895 the latest newer powder I used was Ramshot Tac. It's a ball powder that drops great thru a Dillion RL550B. My last; load was for one of my new bolt guns in .308 used 41gr of IMR 4895, 165gr Nosler green tip, Br2 primer, Remington case OAL 2.775, Dillion crimp die = 1/2 groups at the hundred.
