Marlin Model 93 - Help with ID and Value

Please shed some light on this rifle for me. My father in law is asking me to value some of his guns so that he can distribute them "equally" in his will. I am stumped on a few of them.

This particular rifle is a Marlin Model 93. It appears to have less than 60% finish. I can not figure out when it was manufactured or how much it would be valued at. It is chambered in .30-30

I do have the new 44th edition of the Blue Book, but I am still confused.

Any information would help.

The last 6 that sold on GunBroker were $750, $961, $1199, $770, $1000, and $931. Look at the auction pictures and pick the one that matches yours the best and use that number as your guide.

No one can give a reasonable estimate with photos of only the receiver.

Is there a letter prefix or suffix for the serial number?

How is the barrel marked?
Marlin Firearms Corporation, or Marlin Firearms Company?

Is it marked "Model 93" or "Model 1893"?

With the star on the upper tang, I expect "Model 93", and "Company", making for 1926-1935 production.

The ill-fitting bolt, round barrel, and worn finish make the rifle undesirable to collectors, but the lower price point associated with those factors does appeal to many people that just want to shoot the old things. That being said, I picked a nice one up a few years ago for $300, because it had been freshly rust blued and had the stocks refinished. But with otherwise nice metal and wood, and a very nicely fitting bolt, it would have sold for $600-800 at the time - with the original, nearly 0% finish.
Being chambered for .30-30 adds value in the "shooters" market, over chamberings like .32 WS.

There is not a letter prefix of suffix on the serial, only 1420.

The barrel is "Marlin Firearms Company"

It is marked "Model 93".

And yes there is a "Star" on the tang.

This answers my question completely. It appears this old gun has no collectors value and would be valued at the lower end of the 93 market, for shooters. Perfect!
I will relay that to my FIL and he can decide what to do with it. I might offer him $400 because it is a cool old gun!
