Nipple Thread

I have a Ultra-Hi .44 Kentucky rifle and I want to use the same caps on it as my 1851 Colt 44. What type of threads would the rifle's nipple be or how could I find that out?
What size of caps would the Colt use is the other question I have? Any information would be helpful.

The colt, assuming replica would normally use #10 caps from the factory.
Although there are replacement nipples that allow #11.

Your rifle would normally use #11 caps.
However some .45 cal and smaller have used #10
it would also help to know the maker of your colt.

the best way to know thread size is contact factory look in your owners manual, if you have it.
otherwise remove the nipple and go to a hardware store or machine shop and use a thread pitch guage.

Normally 6 x 1 mm but could be 6x .75 1/4 x 28

This is all presuming it is a sidelock rifle not an inline.

Google Track of the Wolf or Dixie Gun Works and see if hey list your rifle in their nipple listings - won't cost you anything and you might find your answer in one or the other place.

Your thought of making the same cap work is a good one - saves on having to buy two different sizes. Either a 10 or an 11 . . . or even a 12 will work on both your pistol and rifle. As long as you have good nipples and a clear flash hole, they'll go boom.

Ihave to ask
who is making #12 caps and where are you getting them from.

last 50 years or so, the only sizes Ihave seen available is #10 & 11
and musket.

Also,haven't seen any listing for nipples for size 12 caps.
But if they are available could be an acceptable replacement for my Sharps and Smith when musket caps aren't available

Its going to depend on the maker as much as the model.
I'd suggest calling Track Of The Wolf as they have a huge selection & can probably get you sorted out somehow.

most likly your Jukar is going to be a 6x1mm. it wont be a 1/4 , 28 unless someone changed it over . folks used to try and use a 1/4, 28 as it would wobble then tighten down . but more times then not it would also end up blowing out at some time and then the breech would need to be rethreaded .
as such it could be now larger . you will have to check it and see .

Also, the thing about metric , factory nipples is that they are all metric , not just the threads . IE the necks and seat are also metric .

unless you really like the metric threads . i would have retap it to a proper standard thread . but thats just me

The Colt is a pietta and the threads are not the same. The rifle threads are much larger. Can I use a normal nut to figure out what it is?

You could take the nipple to "Home Despot", or "Lowes", they have inch & metric thread samplers in the hardware department where the nutz & boltz are.

Just try it in to see what fits. Some " threads are actually metric, but described in " terms BTW so try em all.
