thats the primer seater, it sets in the slot in front of the ram. it has a small and lerge primer set. after you deprime the round just set a new primer in it and push it in the slot in the ram when you bring it down and it seats the new primer.

That's the field goal.
When you get bored running shells through your press, you finger kick 9mm casings through the uprights... |

You got it all wrong... It's a key... You use it to wind up the press.

Sixer,
One thing you will probably quickly learn is that using that little device is a pain in the butt. My suggestion would be that you investigate hand priming tools as one of your next purchases. One of the RCBS ones is more expensive, but it does use the same shell holders as your new press. The Lee ones are fine, as well, but they take a proprietary shell holder that can be used only in their tool. A bit annoying, really. |

Thanks Mike,
The guy I bought this stuff from actually included a LEE hand primer along with a handful of shell holders. It seems to work fine. Plenty more newb questions to come as I sort through all this stuff |

Ah, good, you have priming covered, then.
A word to the wise on the Lee tool. Keep the handle pivot lubricated with a light bodied grease, preferably something with moly or teflon in it. Don't use oil. Keeping the tool lubed makes priming a LOT easier and really cuts down on wear and tear on the tool, and your fingers. |

was that for shot shells ???
I have a couple of shot shell loaders that I got after my father in law died... I also got his cartridge reloading stuff, but fortuntely he had showed me how to reload handgun & rifle cartridges, but I have never even watched anyone load shot shells... so I'm pretty clueless there... BTW... thanks to the OP... I have a few things that look similar, that I have never used for rifle / handgun reloading... that I had also been wondering what they were for...

Thanks for the tip Mike. BTW how do you get the primer tray off of the actual hand primer? Or do you? I'd like to clean it up a bit.
Magnum, the hand primer I have is only for handgun and rifle cartriges as far as I know. But then again, I don't know that much |

It's been awhile since I've used it (I now have a priming system on my Lee press), but IIRC you pull DOWN on the primer tray, slide the shell holder out, and then push up on the primer tray to remove it.
