Just out of curiosity, I checked my Wal-Mart app last night for .22lr and the store in Snellville, GA showed some. Drove over at lunch today and was amazed to find 2 dozen boxes of Federal match (325 count) and more than a dozen boxes of CCI (375 count). They also had plenty of .45ACP (100 rd WWB) and what looked to be a couple dozen or more boxes of .40S&W.

The amazing thing was that they still had that much on hand after 1:00pm since it is usually gone by mid morning in most places.

I bought 3 boxes of the Federal @ $18.97 each. The CCI was $21.97 per box and the .45ACP was $40.77 per box.

Cabela's in Hoffman Estates IL this morning had pretty much everything in stock. They even had .22 LR, 100 packs of CCI mini mags for $8.50, Remington Golden Bullet 525 packs for $24 and buckets of 1,400 for $60.

I'm just getting into reloading and it seems that powder is close to impossible to get out there. I'm kind of out in the sticks, so I don't have a lot of close-by gun store options, and every website I've been too are sold out of everything but shotshell pwdr, with long waits.

So, is it possible to get powder anywhere online? I'm a bit northwest of St. Louis, so does anybody know a place in the region where it's possible to get some kind of powder?

More details: Looking to reload .40 S&W right now, and 9mm some time down the road. I'd just like to get my hands on a pound or two of an appropriate pwdr to get started in my learning process.

Lately I have seen a couple of signs that this shortage hooey may be easing up. Some of the online retailers have had powder in stock (for a day or so) that has been nonexistent for 6 months or more. Ya have to check the sites daily and when you see something you want, order it right then. Have also seen primers on a site or two. Brass? Nada. Some bullets but still limited as heck.

I would still like to know where all of the manufacturers are sending the products.

Yesterday Midway was backordered on the Sierra 175 grain HPBT bullets, today I received notice they're in stock, unfortunately I already bought them from Graf's. So supply may be getting closer to demand. Now we just have to wait for the prices to come down to pre-hysteria level.

Welcome to the forum Onlooker.

I'm in your vicinity. There's a quite few options around here with a little driving. Graf and Son's is in Mexico, MO. Another Graf's is in St. Charles. Smaller, I've had pretty good luck there. Midway's out in Columbia. Bass Pro in St Charles and Cabelas in Hazelwood.

BTW, generally speaking, shotgun powder works well for pistols. Check the reloading forum.

Over the last week, I've seen good quantities of .40, 9mm, 5.56, and .308 at the Walmarts in Troy, Wentzville, and Warrenton, MO. Most impressive was the 4 1000round cases of Federal 5.56 in the case in Wentzeville, although the other 2 had at least 1 of those bulk cases. Bulk case cost was still $447, which is over $50 more than pre-panic, IIRC.

^^^ same is happening here in my area. even the 1000rd cases. Minus .308 but theyve also been getting larger than normal shipments of .22 which of course still sells out by the afternoon.

A new Gander Mt. opened in San Antonio.

1. Tons of popular handguns and long arms (lots of EBRs).

2. Lots of ammo except 9mm practice (there were SD rounds) and 22 LR. I guess the 22 LR hoarders hit the place.

They are pricey as compared to others on guns. Ammo prices were ok but a little more than other big boxes around here. Loads of 45, 40, 38 and the more specialized - 10mm, 327, 44 mag, etc.

Thanks for the info Mike, and the welcome. It's sure frustrating trying to get hold of some powder. Amazing. I've got some on backorder with Midsouth Shooters Supply, since they're actually doing that, unlike most.

I hate to drive all over the place with such little chance of scoring (I'm in Troy, so a pretty long way from any of them), and I'm sure they're all very tired of the phone calls. Ah well, just may have to wait a while, though I've got a big order of my initial equipment coming from Midway USA. I'll just study up some more and get familiar with the equipt and processes doing some loads without powder.

Stopped in a Gander Mountain today in Lafayette, Indiana. That place was stocked! Their racks and shelves were overflowing. They even had large displays of ammo. I thought I'd hit the jackpot, until I saw their prices, then it all made sense. No wonder they had so much on hand, their prices were ridiculous. The prices of their firearms ranged from $100 - $400 over anywhere else I've looked but they did have stock. Their ammo prices were even worse but their ammo supply looked like the panic never happened.

$65 for WWB 100rd boxes of .45 Acp.
$120 for 200rd Blazer .45 Acp.
$130 for 350rd ammo boxes of Blazer 9mm.
$4.50 for 50rd boxes of .22lr
$36 for 20rd box of Federal .308

With prices like that, it's easy to see why they still had so much on hand. I went to Walmart and was able to pick up 3 boxes of Federal .45 Acp for $21/50rd at 4pm no less. Gouger Mountain can keep their over priced ammo.

$4.50@ box of 22lr isn't bad these days. I'm surprised it was that cheap at GM. I saw some match boxes there once I think was around $12@50 rnd

For me, $4.50/50 is terrible since I can easily find it for $6/100.

I too walk out empty handed. In fact, I don't think I have ever bought anything from them simply because of their prices. I look to see what I like and then find it much cheaper somewhere else. Makes me wonder who's keeping them in bussiness.

Local WalMart had everything but .380 ACP and 22LR yesterday at lunch time. I was shocked to see 50 round boxes of Federal 9mm at the regular price as well as loads of 7.62x39 Tula for $4.99 per 20.

Shotgun shells galore even as dove season is off and running.

Looks like the Gander Mountains around me only got 5-10 boxes of 9mm today. It was 14.99 for 50 Fiocchi FMJ

TONS of 40 and 45(Blazer, WWB, Speer Lawman), but at an average of $30/50.

Well I was able to get some powder at Graf & Sons in St. Charles, MO. I don't know what all they have, but I was able to get 2 lb of Accurate 7 to get me going. They also had a decent supply of primers and good supply of bullets. Nice little store, for sure.

Based off of recent legislation here in Texas and what happened in Colorado (read here: http://thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=532468) it seems that all this hoarding and massive panic buying should ease up soon. Clearly it began because everyone thought we were going to get some much stricter gun control measures adopted. It seems that the opposite has occurred. So in my way of wishful thinking, now that the climate has changed, maybe so will this current shortage. I just hope that the manufacturers can begin to catch up with all the new shooters coming aboard. They (hell, everyone) need .22lr!

Lucked out before a hunt 2 weekends ago, and my buddy bough 2000 rounds of .22 to split among friends. I bought 500 from him. 40 bucks for the winchester super-x plastic box hollow points. Espanola WalMart.
