Mosin-Nagant Scout conversion- suggestions?
I've got a stock set aside for another project. Have the collectibles, and a long-range capable modded one. So for something different- I want to put together a "true to Jeff Cooper" one (well, as close as I can get). The 54R is right there with the .308- so I think it's a "go" for an acceptable chambering.
Barrel cut/re-crowned to 16". Maybe a bit shorter with a welded-on brake. An unobtrusive, effective brake would definitely soften the bark- except for anyone next to me. Ching sling. All pretty straightforward 'till the sights/optic. What I'd like to have is the following: Sights: Optic Mount: Different idea here. Probably just the ATI pic rail mount, with a rail mounted, fiber optic ghost ring. Then the tricky part- ahead of that, a see-through riser (to use the sight, natch) with another pic rail above to hold a red dot with magnifier. Preferably the rail and riser will be integral, with enough real estate to hold both. Front sight- fiber optic post- something I can silver-solder on to the newly cut barrel. It's a target stock with the comb level with the action, so there's plenty of height for a correct cheek weld. Suggestions for the sights, and a riser/rail? No, I don't want to use the rear sight base for an LER scope mount...

I would suggest going with an S&K scout mount. A few years ago, I picked up a generic chinese made scout mount and NcStar 2-7 pistol scope for a good price. Suffice to say, neither lasted that long on my 91/30. My rifle now has an S&K mount and a Bushnell 2-6x32 Trophy XLT pistol scope. That scope/mount combo has been in place and held zero for ~2.5 years and at least three spam cans of ammo.

C'mon guys... read...
I don't want to use the rear sight base. The Brass Stacker "Scout" isn't a true Scout rifle- it retains the original rear sight. A Scout rifle must have an aperture rear sight. Front sight adapter ring looks good though, might work, I need to check the post height. Thanks. I love the Mosin platform.... but I can't believe anyone would actually pay nearly $500 for one of those...
