South Carolina Now Permitless Carry State

South Carolina – The Governor has signed Bill 3594 making South Carolina the 29th state to pass Permitless Carry. It lowers the age to apply for a permit and to carry under permitless carry to 18. Though Louisiana Governor signed his bill first (28th state) the South Carolina Bill went into effect the moment the Governor signed it while Louisiana will not go into effect until July 4. https://www.scstatehouse.gov/sess125...4_20240305.htm

Caution: uninformed, possibly dumb question ahead.

Is there any chance of a nation wide 'constitutional carry' happening? Or maybe every state recognizing any state's permit to carry...like driver's licenses are accepted in all states?

Oh, and queue up 'THE STREETS WILL RUN RED' rhetoric.

We heard a lot of that in Minnesota when they passed concealed carry legislation. We've got it but we have to pay for it. The cost varies from county to county. In my county it's $100---many other counties are a bit cheaper. (Plus you need to take and pay for a class.)

Id rather we repeal suppressor and SBR restrictions. I mean how does a firearm being almost hearing safe make it bad? Same for short & handy.

Not a good one.

By the way, since you bring up Federal law, it's instructive to remember that permitless carry is problematic from the standpoint of Federal law since the Gun Free School Zone Act does not provide an exception for permitless carry. A person must have a qualifying permit, issued by the political entity (state/city/county) in which the school zone in question is located.

John is correct. The only way national "constitutional carry" can be worth having is if the GFSZA is either repealed or revised to eliminate the requirement for a permit issued by the political entity in which the school is located.

Just to be clear, when you say "permitless carry" do you mean permitless OPEN carry, or permitless concealed carry??

Not a chance in hell, unless you can change generations of elitist mindset in states like New York, Mass, and some others, and while you MIGHT get it to pass in CA, you'll be decades (or longer) bouncing from court to court.

Remember that the root of gun control is to control PEOPLE, and the people the elite want controlled are the underclasses. Its not just a race thing, its also an ethnic, social status, and economic thing.

The foreigners, the immigrants, including those of the same race as the elite, but of lesser or even poor social standing are "not to be trusted" and "certainly not to be allowed access to weapons, as all they will do with them is harm others" and the "others" the elite is concerned about is themselves.

I freely admit that there are a LOT of people who should not have weapons. There are also a lot of people who should not control political power (which includes the weapons of the police and the military).

But under our laws, everyone has the RIGHT until and unless they demonstrate their incompetence or unwillingness to obey the law. Gun control preempts our free will and right of choice.

because there are people who will make bad choices they would remove all choice from everyone, under the infallible benevolent authority of the state.

Yes, I'm being intentionally sarcastic. Gun control is the presumption of guilt and requires "proof" of innocence and that's not the way things should work.
Just my (not so) humble opinion...
