.45 ACP 1911 Bullet explosion
A few days ago I had a .45 blow out thru the magazine of my 1911 . I'm guessing it was due to a double charge . Pretty scary , and I can't figure out how that was possible . I have been reloading since the early 90's and have a set pattern to the reloading process . I guess this could happen to anyone though . Pic's illustrate the remnants of the explosion . Could not find the follower . Lesson "Always double check your loads !" The 1911 pictured is the one this occurred in .

Case head separations from overworked cases are also a thing.

Me too but . . .
I had a mag blow out of a 1911 45 as well. It was a cheaper gun (Rock Island) and what I initially thought was a double charge may well have been an out of battery discharge. I'll see if I can find the post and add it in below.
Life is good. Prof Young P.S. Look in the reloading forum, 12/25/2020, post title is Overcharged?...Yikes! Last edited by Prof Young; September 25, 2023 at 10:49 AM. |
