Anyone have a S&W 916 trigger plate?
Howdy Y'all
I have a Project gun that I got off an auction but the cracked trigger guard was not just the trigger guard but the whole plate itself. Seems like that pot metal poured or really cheap aluminum assembly was broken off at the trigger guard pin on the rear of the plate. Looks like someone tried to hammer through the pin and busted the whole piece. Anyone know if they can be welded back together? Or do I need to get a whole new plate? I would be glad to add pictures if needed. Any assistance would be great. Yours in service James Acerra ACE'S DUGOUT 07FFL

James,
While not familiar with the part you are referencing, I have worked with various metals over the years. Have welded with CO2, stick, and a little gas work. If your part is made of "pot metal" you will need a new part. "Pot metal" can't be welded with anything. However, if the part is aluminum a good TIG welder can repair the part. Hopefully one of the smith experts will know more about your part than me and can offer more information. |

I'm not sure if these were aluminum or zinc. If it's aluminum, you might be able to weld it, but any warping would have to be controlled, as it could affect the sear engagement.
Numrich is sold out, but you may find one showing up on some of the gun auctions, or eBay. I doubt S&W having these any more, but a call to them might find one. |

Looks like you can get it along with a bunch of other stuff.
