I shoot enough now to get interested in reloading. Right now I shoot a .45 ACP on a regular basis and pay $11.00 to $13.00 per box. I'm looking for advice, publications, etc that will give me a head start in researching.

My advice = get the Speer manual and Lyman's Pistol and Revolver manual.
Read. Contact Graf & Sons,INC., Widener's, Midway, and others for component catalogs. You may also contact me directly at [email protected] for more information. Handloading is well worth it. ------------------ "All my ammo is factory ammo" |

My favorite 45ACP load is:
Lyman #452460 cast 200gr SWC with Alox Lube 4.0 gr Bullseye powder WLP Primer Works great in my Gold Cup, it's about the only load I ever use. BTW I use mixed brass and don't segregate by OAL. I'll buy your brass from you if you don't reload. ------------------ "Our most pressing problems...are at their core moral, not material, problems." Reloading lets you shoot a lot more for less and it is a great hobby to boot.I have cast my own handgun bullets for the last 5 years out of wheel weights for greater savings. Beats the boob tube anytime. Read some good books and be carefull to double check yourself. It comes to you .

Since it's pistol rounds you want I'd suggest Dillon all the way. Get the 550 press , not the Square Deal like I did (can't do rifle calibers), dies for 45ACP, tumbler, dial calipers, manual scale, all from Dillon. Spend about $500-600 and in less than a year it should have paid itself. Besides you can have ammo when you need it by keeping a stock of components on hand. You won't regret it!

I haven't sat down and figured out what it cost me to load . 45. But I can load a box of 50 9mm 115 gr JHP for $4.00, that's actual cost of powder, primers and bullets. Whats not factored in is brass, which is reused X times and is usually once fired purchased at varying cost. Where can you buy hollow point 9mm with brass case for $4 ? |
