Who has dabbled in the 350 legend yet?

Title really says it all, just wondering if anyone here has tried it and liked it.
I know there’s some market hype, but the true nature can be hashed out on TFL in most topics. I have an AR pistol lower and a couple of pistol uppers that I am going to convert to carbine/rifle. I like the pistols, I figure they will be the next firearm niche that will get the ole “knee jerk” ban.

I like the idea of the round and I'm thinking of going with it for my next AR build but as of yet I've seen no rifles around here in the caliber or any ammo for it...

I think cmmg has the monopoly on the barrels. I looked a couple of months ago and they seemed reasonably priced at the time.

I already shoot and reload for the .357 Max and I have to say the numbers for the .350 Legend don't impress me in the least!

I have seen the ammo everywhere, Walmart, farm stores, sporting goods stores, but no guns for it. I wonder if Winchester is making you get some if you're a dealer. I haven't talked to anyone even interested in the cartridge and I'm in one of those "straight wall case" states it was intended for. Most people like, have already bought, 450 Bushmaster guns. 350 Legend is late to the party.

I would be willing to give it a go in a lever gun for the heck of it--otherwise--yawn.

Interested very much in the 350 Legend. But, in an AR platform. Which for me would be for defense purposes and maybe for the occasional hog hunt. Since it's so new it's 'wait for' to see what comes out with weapons and more ammo selection.

You are missing the whole purpose of the 350. It's a RIMLESS design so it can feed reliably from a magazine. Your .357 Maximum is a great cartridge but it's a RIMMED Cartridge not suitable for magazine fed systems (other than Ruger's 4 rd rotary design).

I don't have one.I haven't fired one.
At first glance:
Designed to be compatible with an AR. That,IMO,is the "niche" It could also become a Mini-14 cartridge.

Brass is not too exotic. Starline $ 71.00 for 250.

After volumes of argument about the effectiveness of the 7.62 X 39 vs the 5.56,lets take an objective look. Given the real estate available with the AR,
The 350 legend delivers identical velocity to the 7.62 X 39 123 gr common load,about 2350 fps.

The 350 legend gives 2350 to 2375 fps with a 35 cal 150 gr bullet.

That's the ballpark velocity for 150 gr 30-30 load.

It is what it is,nothing more or less. It seems a good medium to short range woods cartridge for up to medium deer size game suitable for an AR.

Of course it should work well as an up-close manstopper, using correct bullets.

If the cartridge feeds and functions well, IMO,it has potential.

For myself,is it a better choice than a 6.5 Grendel??? HMMMM. My priorities might favor the Grendel. But that takes nothing away from the 350 Legend. It might fit YOUR priorities better. If the straightish case feeds/functions reliably I give it a thumbs up.

Hasn't the subject of the 350 Legend been discussed ad nauseam on here already?, and no i am not "bashing" the cartridge, just making an observation.

Hasn't everything?

Then again, just why do you suppose forums like this exist?

I'm coming to the conclusion that the forum exists for the sole purpose of creating a want when there is zero need... So does the legend take a standard 223/5.56 bolt? Asking for a friend.

It looks to me like this thread had 'gone to sleep' for a full month, and was drifting into the archives until you brought it back to the top.

I just asked a question, with a few responses I can come up with a pretty solid answer.

I may have missed the previous and repeated discussions because it got buried amongst the numerous other subjects that have been discussed at an even higher frequency than this topic.

ThAnks to those that responded. I felt that I did get the information that I was seeking.

Guess no one told Dan Coonan. I had two of his guns and they fed .357mag rounds flawlessly. I agree with quite a few others, this new cartridge is a "Johnny Come Lately". It's got nothing on the .357max either as far as bullet selection and velocity. I get an honest 2500 fps with my Max and 158g bullets.

The 357 Max is a fine cartridge, but it never caught on much beyond the silhouette crowd. The 350 is easily adaptable to today's popular rifles as evidenced by the timely availability of standard production semiautomatic and bolt action rifles in the 350, something that never happened with the Max.

The 350 is definitely a niche cartridge at this point, but certainly a welcome option in those states with straight wall cartridge requirements for deer hunting. Time will tell whether the market is enough for the 350 to stick, or to be another flash in the pan.

Talk to Mike Bellm and MGM barrels about the 357Max. You're out of touch.

I have no interest in a break open single shot. I also considered rebarreling a Ruger or CZ bolt action in 7.62X39 to 357 Max. But that was more work and cost than desired at the time, especially if I wanted the rounds to feed from the magazine.

For now, I'll just use a 44Mag rifle. If the 350 gains traction, I'll look at one of the production bolt action rifles in that chambering.

I have a friend heavily invested in 357 max. Does not live or hunt in one of the special states! He is worried too. A new round or even resurrecting and jumping on an old idea like the 357 max is always a risk. For any of this to make sense, it depends where you hunt and how much he thinks it takes to get the job done. I like the 450BM, but; its not a matter of need and I dont live in one of these special places either.

The problem with all the new stuff, is ammo availability and atleast one or two choices in a quality gun and a cheap gun. Price gouging by a single source on ammo, kiss of death.

In the back of my head I keep thinking that if who ever came up with the Legend had stepped back and thought a little longer about what he was doing he might have made a little better round. To my way of thinking the use of a .358 bullet would be a step up along with using longer barrels for testing. I've heard a million times that 16 inch barrels are used so a can can be used but because of price I'd be surprised if 3 people out of a 100 will spend the money? On the other hand 20 and 22" barrels can bring more out of a given load, Just my .02 cents..........Flame away!

bolt actions everywhere for the 350 Legend. Seen a bunch of barrels and uppers for it as well.

May be late to the game, but in "straight walled only" states, this will be the clear choice in a short time.
