Coonan Model B ammo suggestions

Hi, all. I just bought a nice Coonan Model B. Just curious: what's the best factory ammo to run through this gun? Even 158 gr.semi-jacketed stuff has an occasional FTF. Is that to be expected during the break-in period?

the Model B is the older model made by the old Coonan company.

My Suggestion would be to call the new Coonan and see of they can help you. They have always been really good to me. I hope you get your issues fixed.

all 26 of my guns are 45/70 govt, 357 mag, 22 or 12 ga... I believe in keeping it simple. Wish my wife did as well...

I will give this advice, AVOID BLAZER. The aluminum cases do not hold up well and the difference between aluminum and brass, combined with the long .357 case, (which makes no difference in a manual repeater) are just "off" for the auto loader.

Torn through rims are highly likely.

Other than that, any FULL POWER load ought to work, but given the vagaries of individual guns, I can't say which one(s) your gun will like, or choke on.

I have a Coonan Model A (one of the original first 1500 guns) and it has run well on a couple boxes of some S&B 158gr FMJ that a friend gave me.
(that particular ammo is like me, old, dirty, smokey, and somewhat foul smelling, but it fed, fired, and extracted fine.)

Talking to Coonan, and seeing what they recommend is a good starting point.
