S&W Hand Ejector
Howdy folks!
I recently bought two S&W revolvers (I have never owned any revolvers before). I was hoping if someone can help me with some info on the revolvers like manu date/exact model. Will load up some pictures later. The previous owner stated that these two revolvers were S&W Hand ejectors one 38-40 and the other was a 38. Both guns are of a 5 screw version s/n are engraved on the bottom of their handles and cylinder. There is no letting in the s/n, on the barrel there's an engraving of "32 Winchester CTG" 1st gun s/n = 197xx 2nd gun s/n = 252xx Last edited by playboyoncrack; March 14, 2017 at 12:36 PM. |

It's puzzling that the previous owner thought one was a .38-40 and the other was a .38 since they are clearly both .32-20 M&P (fixed sight) revolvers.

I removed some of the data from my post. I think I was looking at the wrong info. The more I looked at it, the more I think they might both be Model of 1905 revolvers.
Someone with the Standard Catalog (Supica & Nahas) reference will soon be along. |

Jim, On the 2991xx, the 36 (model) is stamped on the fore strap. What's interesting is you can see the 6 has been stamped over a 2 and to the right of that you can see a - something was ground off. Would it be a good assumption considering the change from the model 32 I frame (improved) to the 36 that there was an overlap and some 32's were re-stamped 36?

Jim, Here's about the best picture I can come up with. It's hard to see with just a picture, but it clearly is a 6 restamped over a 2. To the right of that you can see the remains of a dash something that was ground off. I think this was a case of either a miss stamp or a left over 32 frame restamped. Just an oddity, and I have no doubt it was done at Smith & Wesson vs later...

Hello! I have a minty 15-4 Masterpiece SN K3994xx. Any idea of the year of making? Also I know you don't usually but is this generally worth $500, $1000 etc. Highest Regards and thanks.

I believe you are looking at a 1960 birthdate with that serial number. Value wise I would look at Gunbroker and see what they are going for there. It's usually a good indication and don't just look at asking, look or monitor a few to see what they eventually sell for. I'd say your looking more at the $500 end than the $1000.
